Dancehall Superstar Mavado, real name David Brooks, was slapped with charges of assault occasioning bodily harm and malicious destruction of property yesterday.
The arrest comes just days after a report was filed against the 30-year-old deejay and a member of his entourage at the Anchovy Police Station in St James.
THE STAR has been informed that he will appear in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday, August 8.
According to a release from the Constabulary Communication Network, on Friday January 22 about 7 p.m., Mavado assaulted a man and damaged his Toyota Camry motor vehicle along the Belmont main road in St James. It is alleged that the 51-year-old complainant stopped along the main road to allow a line of traffic to pass when Mavado and members of his entourage attacked him and his son.
Reports are that the complainant sustained injuries to his back, leg and forehead.
It was also reported that on Tuesday another man, who attempted to bribe the complainant, was nabbed by members of the Anti-Corruption Branch and is to be charged with perverting the course of justice.
In May, Mavado was charged with malicious destruction of property following an event in St Ann. Also, in June he was charged with assault.
The deejay who has had a great year so far with hits like Pepper and Delilah, recently returned to the United States after more than a year's absence as he was among a group of four artistes who had their visas revoked last April.PAULA GORDON, STAR Writer
